Team profile

Poland

Polish National Women Senior Team was first convocated in 1947.  It's first major successes were noted as they took Olympic bronze medals in 1964 and 1968. They won a World Championship silver in 1952 and bronze in 1956 and 1962.

Poland have cracked the top eight in several tournaments in recent times but are still working on consistency. They have won gold medals twice since 2000. The first was at the 2003 European Championship in Turkey when they beat the hosts in straight sets. They defended the title two years later and also took bronze in 2009 on home soil.

Poland returned to the Olympic stage for the first time in 40 years in 2008 and rallied to qualify for the London 2012 Games. In 2015 they competed in the first European Games in Baku, Azerbaijan ending second and retaining hope of reviving Polish women's volleyball.

Since then the team is undergoing a major generation shift trying to bring the best youth players to compete on the world senior level. In 2017 they hope to qualify for the 2018 World Championships as well as to strive to advance to group 1 of the FIVB World Grand Prix tour.
