The favourite for theopening game of 29th Montreux Volley Masters was clear. The double Olympic goldmedallists Brazil had to win against host Switzerland if they wanted to beginwell in the tournament. Nevertheless, Timo Lippuner’s Swiss team wanted to playa good match and put pressure on the world’s number one. Brazil started with astrong and disciplined system in their game against the host. The Swiss playersstruggled with their own reception and against Brazil’s blocking game. Asconsequence, the Brazilians won the first set 25-13.The Swiss national players,however, were not afraid of the strong Brazilian offensive players and startedto improve their own defensive work. The host even led against the world’s numberone in the second set.
