USA celebrate a ticket to the finals

Montreux,
Switzerland, May 31, 2014 – USA’s women will take on Germany for the 29th
Montreux Volley Masters title, after earning a spot in the finals with a 3-1 (25-23,
22-25, 25-20, 25-21) victory over Russia on Saturday.

USA’s
Rachel Adams, who scored 17 points, and her strong offensive teammates made an
impressive game against European Champions Russia and their top scorer Natalia
Malykh, who scored 20 points.

The
match of the volleyball rivals lived up to its expectations as the game started
with a high pace in the offense. The liberos and the back row players had a lot
of work as there were some breath-taking attacks. Both teams struggled to get
the lead early in the game, but the Americans pulled ahead won the set by
25-23.

The
Russians started strong in the second set, as Yuri Mirachev’s players followed
through with strong blocks and saves. The European champions were able to make follow
through with kills to tie the game at 1-1, with a 25-22 win.

USA
weren’t intimidated by Russia’s performance, as they started their comeback in
the third set. USA setter Courtney Thompson provided a good passing game, as her
attacker scored the much-needed points. The Russians weren’t able to react, as
Karch Kiraly’s players made a big step to the final game as they won the set by
25-20.

If
Yuri Marichev’s team wanted to keep their dreams of gold at the Montreux Volley
Masters alive, they had to stop the American gunfire in the fourth set. The
Russians tried their best and improved their attacking game, but the Americans
had a strong offensive game, and the London 2012 Olympic silver medalists won
the set with a 25-21 score, securing the game.

USA
faces Germany in the final game on Sunday at 16:00 (GMT+2).
