Kim Yeon-Koung leads Korean 3-2 rally over Thailand at all-star match

 

Korean volleyball superstar Kim Yeon-Koung led her team to a 3-2 win over Thailand in an all-star match in Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, Thailand, June 3, 2017 – Kim Yeon-Koung led Korea as they rallied from two sets down to win 3-2 (21-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-23) over Thailand in the Korea-Thailand Pro Volleyball All-Star Super Match at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium on Saturday.



Kim led the charge with her fierce attacks, while her team-mates mounted solid blocks as Korea bounced back to win the match after going down in the first two sets.

Thailand played without two of their key players Onuma Sittirak and Malika Kanthong. The hosts relied on their veterans Wilavan Apinyapong, Pleumjit Thinkaow, Nootsara Tomom and Wanna Burkaew, and their young talents Chatchu-on Moksri and Pimpichaya Kokram.

“The All-Star Super Match is a good project to help promote the sport of volleyball in Thailand and in Asia,” Thailand captain Pleumjit said. “We also learned about their tactics and compare our performance against theirs. I think both teams learned from each other. We had fun and learned from this match despite our loss.”



Korea-Thailand Pro Volleyball All-Star Super Match



Both squads will also compete in this year's FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix this year. Thailand will play in Group 1, while Korea will take part in the Group 2 competition.



On Sunday night, Thailand will leave for Montreux, Switzerland for the Montreux Volley Masters, which will take place from June 6 to 11.



The Thai team will be pitted against 2016 World Grand Prix winners Brazil, Germany and Poland in Pool B; while Rio 2016 Olympic Games champions China head Pool A, which also includes Argentina, the Netherlands and Switzerland.
