Japan sweep Russia for Montreux Volley Masters final stint

 

Japan outplayed Russia at the net for a 3-0 sweep

Montreux, Switzerland, May 30, 2015 - In the second semifinal match, undefeated Japan swept Russia 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-13) to reach the final of the Montreux Volley Masters 2015 at the Pierrier Sports Hall on Saturday.

Yukiko Ebata led Japan with 17 points, while Russian Daria Isaeva scored 13 points.

Russia started well in the first set and kept a constant lead of three to four points over the Japan. However, the Japanese defence strengthened, and their attackers utilised the Russian block for the ball touch that allowed them to tie the score at 19-all. Japan played with good timing on their plays that helped them secure a 25-23 win.

Japan confirmed their good state at the beginning of the second set, setting a comfortable gap of 19-10. The Russians made an incredible comeback with Irina Malkova serving, by scoring 10 consecutive points to grab the lead 20-19. Japan regrouped and still closed the set 25-22 in their favour.

Russia could no longer pull off any strings to steal a set, while Japan continued to dominate on all fronts. Japan sealed the set and match victory with an ace 25-13.

Japan will face Turkey in the final of the Montreux Volley Masters on Sunday.
