Germany: Guidetti invites 26 players

Lausanne, Switzerland, May
5, 2014 -
The national team
coach of Germany, Giovanni Guidetti, announced the 26 players who are expected
to join the team the 20th of May for a first meeting in Heidelberg: 13 vice
European Champions build the heart of the team, on the other hand there are
nine players without any experience at international matches.

Already on 25th of May, the
national team will travel to Montreux for their first international tournament.
In the preliminary round,
Germany will face USA, the Dominican Republic and Japan. For this event,
Guidetti will have to designate 12 players.

Except of the long term
injured Saskia Hippe (Scheriner SC), all the players from last year’s silver
medal team will join the team. Most of them are planned for playing the
tournament in Montreux as well as the European League (7th and 8th of June
against Spain). In addition, there will be returnees like Mareen Apitz or
Stephanie Karg (Dresdner SC), but mainly „fresh blood“ in form of young talents
who have not played for the national team yet. Lena Stigrot, Anna Pogany (Rote
Raben Vilsbiburg), Laura Weihenmaier (Ladies in Black Aachen), Julia Schäfer,
Louisa Lippmann, Leonie Schwertmann, Wiebke Silge (USC Münster), Carina
Aulenbrock (Schweriner SC) and Jennifer Pettke (VT Aurubis Hamburg) all
convinced the national coach with their performances in the Bundesliga and are
getting now the chance to present themselves in the national team.

Giovanni Guidetti says: „Like
always at the beginning of the season, I’d like to see the best players of
Germany. My special attention goes to the players who performed really well in
the Bundesliga. I’m going to play with the best possible team at the tournament
in Montreux and the European League in Stuttgart. Afterwards, I want to give a
chance to the players that haven’t played that much in the past and the new
players to perform on the court.“

Istanbul/TUR), Christiane Fürst (Vakifbank Istanbul/TUR), Lena Möllers
