Volleyball titans to come to special tête-à-tête on Swiss Riviera in September

Montreux, Switzerland, December 8, 2017 – The organisers of the Montreux Volley Masters have just confirmed that the oldest and most prestigious invitational tournament will take place from September 4 to 9, 2018, with two Volleyball titans already having confirmed their participation.

It’s official: The Montreux Volley Masters is going to celebrate its 33rd holding upcoming September. The oldest and most prestigious tournament is once again going to bring the best Volleyball nations in the world to the Swiss Riviera.

Since the time slot of the last holdings in the end of May/ beginning of June will not be available due to the inauguration of the Volleyball Nations League in the upcoming year, the organisers of the Montreux Volley Masters saw themselves forced to change the date of the tournament.

Georges-André Carrel, President of the strategic committee and former Lausanne UC coach, is nonetheless happy about this solution.

“The teams will start into their last preparations for the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship with the Montreux Volley Masters in the beginning of September. This means we are going to see the top teams in peak form. There is no doubt, sports fans can look forward to Volleyball at its finest.”

On the other hand, Carrel lauded the good collaboration between the Montreux Volley Masters and the FIVB to find a solution for the most prestigious invitational tournament in Volleyball.

“This would not have been possible without the support of the FIVB. The FIVB told us that the Montreux Volley Masters is very important to the Volleyball family and therefore both sides worked hard to keep the tournament in the international calendar. We are very grateful for this support,” Carrel explained.

And this hard work has already come to fruition as the first two Volleyball titans have already confirmed their participation at the 33rd edition of the most prestigious invitational tournament in women’s Volleyball: reigning Montreux Volley Masters champs Brazil as well as defending Olympic champs China are going to fight for glory on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Other top nations like Canada, Cameroon, the Dominican Republic, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Peru, Poland, and Turkey showed their interest in participating in the 33rd edition of the oldest invitational tournament in international Volleyball.

The Executive Committee will be spoilt for choice in the upcoming weeks to choose which five teams will have the opportunity to complete the strong field.

Carrel cannot wait to enjoy these clashes of epic proportions first hand.

“We are once again going to witness the ‘crème de la crème’ of international women’s Volleyball in the Pierrier in Clarens. This Volleyball spectacle will make hearts leap for joy. And maybe we will even get a foretaste of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.”

On the organisational side, the Executive Committee of the Montreux Volley Masters have just announced that president Dominique Traversini is stepping down after three years to hand over his duties to François Pochon. Mr. Pochon is to be confirmed officially as new president of the Montreux Volley Masters in January. Pochon has been working as Vice Director at the BCV Montreux and has gathered a lot of experience in Volleyball as well as sports in general.
