Preparations have started for U.S. team

 



Montreux,
Switzerland, May 2, Switzerland - The US Women’s National Volleyball Team has
six Red-Blue matches scheduled from May 16 to July 25 in the Southern
California area as the team prepares for various tournaments this summer.


The first USA
Red-Blue match takes place May 16 at Santa Barbara City College in Santa
Barbara, Calif. The intrasquad scrimmage will serve as a homecoming of sorts
for Team USA head coach Karch Kiraly, who grew up in Santa Barbara and attended
Santa Barbara High School.

Team USA’s season
starts with the NORCECA qualification tournament into the 2014 FIVB World
Championship held May 15-18 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  The athletes
not competing in this event will remain in California to train in preparation
for the Montreux Volley Masters, and the Pan American Cup held June 10-21 in
Mexico. The second-ranked US will host top-ranked Brazil in a four-match
series from July 3-13 with match dates and locations being announced soon.


In August, Team USA
competes in the FIVB World Grand Prix with preliminary round weekends (Aug. 1-3
at Ankara, Turkey vs. Turkey, Japan and Russia; Aug. 8-10 at Sao Paulo, Brazil
vs. Brazil vs. Brazil, Korea and Russia; Aug. 15-17 at Bangkok, Thailand vs.
Thailand, Brazil and Dominican Republic). The top four teams in the World Grand
Prix preliminary round will advance to the FIVB World Grand Prix Final Round Aug.
20-24 in Tokyo and will be joined by Japan and the winner of the second tier
Pool J-O eight-team group.


The season concludes
with the FIVB World Championship held Sept. 23 to Oct. 12 in various cities in
Italy. The US still needs to qualify for this event through the NORCECA World
Championship qualifier.
