USA’s women improved their win-loss record to 3-0, whilst the Caribbean team till wait for their first success in Montreux.As winner of Pool B, USAwill face Russia in Saturday’s semifinals. The Dominican Republic willchallenge Brazil in the race for fifth place.USA jumped out for an8-7 early in the opening set. Even though the Dominicans tried their best toresist the powerful USA attack, they couldn’t cope with the speed andprecision of the opponents. Led by Kristin Hildebrand,the US ladies slowly took control of the game. Mambru Casilla answered withsome hammers from the right side, but couldn’t stop the American powerhouse inthe crucial phase of the first set. Five consecutive points from 18-18 to 23-18helped USA enter the first set break with a hard-earned 1-0 lead.The Dominicans, traumatisedby the unexpected end in the first set, had lost their positive spirit from thebeginning of the match at the start of the second set. USA, on the other hand, keptthe pace high. Kelsey Robinson fired several missiles in the opponent’s court,while the block and defense specialists showed their incomparable skills indefense. As a consequence, the North Americans sailed to an easy 25-11 in thesecond period.Things didn’t change in thethird set with the USA heading toward an undisputed straight-sets win. TeToriDixon closed it out at 25-14 with an ace.The best scorer of Friday’s clash was USA’s Kelsey Robinson with13 kills.
