Switzerland, May 31, 2014 – Brazil proved their strength at the Montreux Volley
Masters on Saturday with straight set victory, 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 27-25), against
the Dominican Republic. Monique
Pavão, who played for the injured Tandâra, scored an incredible 18 points in
the three set match.After
the previous day’s disappointment, Brazil was ready for the game against the
Dominican Republic.The
Olympic Gold Medallists seemed to smash out all their anger in the first set,
as Pavão and her teammates tried to shoot the Dominican Republic down. Kwiek
Marcos’ players, however, weren’t shocked of this big Brazilian fanfare, and put
up an impressive blocking game. The Dominican Republic women nearly won the set
with a 24-21 lead, but the Brazilians fought their way back into the game with
four points in a row to win the set 27-25.The
Brazilians were on fire in the second set, as Pavão continued her impressive
show. The player, from Banana Boat Praia Clube, was almost unstoppable with her
strong attacks. The Dominicans tried their best, but weren’t able to stop the No.
1 FIVB World Ranking team, as the Brazilians won the second set 25-16.The
Dominican Republic mobilized their last powers in the third set. Kwiek Marcos’
players started to read better the Brazilian offensive game and improved their
own blocking game. Annerys Victoria Vargas Valdez was only one of the
Dominicans who could keep the game tight by good blocks and well-timed attacks.
Nevertheless, the Brazilians pulled through to win the game 27-25. Brazil
moves on to face Japan for the fifth place Sunday at 11:00 (GMT+2).
