No. 1 FIVB World Ranking team Brazil celebrate the win over Japan
Montreux, Switzerland, May 31, 2014 – The Brazilian national team defeated
Japan 3-1 (19-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-22) to claim fifth place at the 29th Montreux
Volley Masters on Sunday. Carol (17 points) and her teammates beat Arisa Takada (12 points),
despite a big number of unforced errors.Sunday’s finals began with the No. 1 FIVB World Ranking team Brazil
taking on the East Asians.Nevertheless, the Japanese started well into the game. Mayoshi
Manabe’s players were able to put pressure on the double Olympic gold medalists,
because they played an almost faultless first set. Further on, setter Natsumi
Fujita brought a big diversity in their attacking game by quick and well-timed
passes. As the Brazilians, on the other hand, committed to many errors (13
altogether), the Japanese won the first set by 25-19.Brazilian national coach Zé Roberto demanded his players to pay
more attention. The South Americans started to focus their attacking game in
the middle lane. Middle blocker Adenizia took advantage of some holes in the
Japanese defensive game. The Brazilians started to reduce their unforced errors
and won the set by 25-20.The Brazilians were now ready for the game. Carol and Adenizia
were unstoppable on the offence and Camila Brait did a good job in the
reception. The Japan national team seemed to be without a chance in the set.
The final score 25-11, a hard setback for Mayoshi Manabe’s team.The Japanese, however, didn’t abandon their hope and still
believed in the victory. The No. 3 FIVB World Ranked team improved their
defensive game and could always shorten the deficit. Nevertheless, at the very
end the Brazilians were too strong for Japan, and won the final set and the
match 25-22.
